Fresh as a Daisy Films proudly presents the premiere of the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival. The festival will bring creators, diverse audiences, and the horror industry together for the inaugural film festival premiering October 23rd, 2018 at The Cinematheque in vibrant downtown Vancouver, BC. We aim to produce a cultural event for the city of Vancouver, specifically for those who share our love of the macabre and are fascinated by what terrifies us as well as what unites us. Our goal is to celebrate the power of storytelling and provide a platform for emerging talent in the world of independent filmmaking, thus building our global community of artists.

Event Details

October 23rd, 2018 at the Cinematheque Theatre: 1131 Howe Street, Vancouver, BC. Doors open at 6:30.

The blood-red carpet event begins at 6:30pm. Walk the red carpet, meet the filmmakers and enjoy STORM beer and/or wine available for cash purchase at our bar. At 7:30 the films begin!

VHS 2018 will consist of two blocks of short films curated by the programming team with one 20 minute intermission. The 12 official selections of the VHS 2018 are an international ensemble of horror cinema, that explores every corner of the genre. View the full list of films and filmmakers.

Miss Guerrero is commonly known for her gritty "Tex-Mex" style with a touch of grind-house and gore in her filmmaking. She was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico. Gigi moved to Vancouver B.C., where she graduated with honours her B.A. in Motion Picture Production at Capilano University's "Bosa Centre for Film and Animation". Gigi has always held a passion for entertaining, whether it being acting or storytelling. Today she is a directing instructor at the prestigious Vancouver Film School. In her mid 20's Guerrero became one of the co-founders of award winning production company "Luchagore Productions". Miss Guerrero became an associate designer/writer for Capcom Game Studios in Vancouver developing a new game aimed to be announced in late 2018. Guerrero's most anticipated project, "La Quinceañera", a thrilling 7 episode mini series she directed and co-created, with Warner Brothers Tv, and Stage13 Network, win Audience choice award at Morbido Film Fest in Mexico City. Her recent successes include the short film "Dia De Los Muertos", part of "Mexico Barbaro", a Mexican horror anthology. Jeff Wish was born in Cleveland, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University. Jeff moved to Los Angeles, California to perform stand-up in 2010. After performing for a few years and attending Second City Hollywood and the Upright Citizens Brigade Jeff began writing and direction sketch comedy. The animated comedy short “6 Trillion Dollar Man,” written, directed and voiced by Wish, was accepted to the Houston and Chicago comedy film festivals from a budget of only $800. Jason Baird is the Director and Designer of JMB FX Studio, which he founded in 1996 making it Australia’s longest running and most successful Make Up Effects Company. His career, spanning over 30 years, has seen him creating, designing, producing, applying, and supervising Make Up Effects, Creatures, Animatronics and Specialty Costumes and Props, for film productions both locally and internationally. His CV reads like a list of some of the worlds most successful and popular films including STAR WARS and THE MATRIX TRILOGY, and more recently the highly acclaimed THOR: RAGNAROK for Marvel Studios and PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, for which he created Special Make Up Effects and the much talked about ‘GHOST SHARKS’. Sean Genders - Nosferatu Rising - Australia

Sean Genders is an Australian Make Up Effects Artist, and have been writer/director on a series of small projects for the past 10 years. Nosferatu Rising was an attempt to bring back the original celluloid Vampyre, which he made it after viewing part of a ‘Twilight’ film and knew ‘enough was enough… something had to be done’. Sean won an Emmy for his work on HBO’s The Pacific, and was mufx artist for the character SLIT on Mad Max Fury Road. Sean also did Jason Momoa’s tattoo’s on the upcoming Aquaman, Johnny Depp’s hand tattoo’s on Pirates 5, and was a key on the ‘Iwi’ Make Ups for Kong: Skull Island. Jennifer Nicole Stang - The Whistler - Canada

JENNIFER NICOLE STANG was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has lived in England, Canada, the U.S., and Spain. Jennifer founded her film production company, Round Table Pictures (Formerly Heart Anchor Productions), with her brother, Emmett, in 2011. With her company, Jennifer has directed award-winning music videos and short films, and has produced videos for clients such as Sotheby's International, USC, and Jamie Nichols for Celebrate Dance, which is one of the "top 5 dance shows" in Los Angeles. Her short film, El Lago (The Lake) has received various awards, including Best Fantasy Film at the Mexico International Film Festival, and 1st place at the Honolulu Film Awards. El Lago is also featured on GAIA TV and Cinemakers. Jennifer directed Livvy Stubenrauch (young Anna from Disney’s Oscar-winning film, FROZEN), in her short film Les Nuages (The Clouds), which is part of The Dream Series on YouTube. Jennifer has also produced the web series, Englishman in L.A. starring Ashley Fink (Glee), Eddie Jemison (Ocean’s 11, 12, 13) and Cameron Moir (Non-Stop). The series received rave reviews from In Touch Magazine and Broadway World, and now streams on Amazon Prime. Jennifer is currently co-producing a feature film with Dark Matter Studios. IMDB

Jared Bloch

Jared is an Entertainment Lawyer working with Reed Smith out of Los Angeles, CA. Jared’s varied practice centers on high-level film, television, new media, technology and related financial transactions. This includes everything from early development, through financing, production and distribution. His wide array of clients include well-funded startups, digital currency creators, entrepreneurs, major television networks, feature film and television studios, production companies, producers, actors, writers and directors. Jared has been featured in the April 2018 issue of VARIETY in the “Up Next” category, which spotlights rising stars in entertainment law.

Shawn Hazelett

Shawn is an NYC based writer / producer and graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts whose work has won two Emmy Awards and has been featured on Bloomberg, NPR, and MTV, among others. Shawn is a well-respected film critic, having written for Under The Radar magazine from 2013-2017.

Paten Hughes

Paten is the star and co-creator of the hot webseries HEIRLOOM, streaming on Vimeo with over 4.2 million views.  Originally from Virginia, Paten studied French and Theatre at Washington and Lee University and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.  She became an original member of The Old Vic New Voices Network, performing in London and New York in productions including Chekhov's Three Sisters directed by Eve Best and Halo/Titanic directed by David F. Chapman.  Paten toured the nation in the one-woman show The Thin Line written and directed by Cathy Plourde.  Film Credits include: Chadd Harbold's LONG NIGHTS SHORT MORNINGS, David Stott's COACH OF THE YEAR (with the late Edward Herrmann), and Harris Doran's BEAUTY MARK.  She is a proud performer with Memorial Sloan Kettering's Visible Ink Program, which allows cancer patients the opportunity to express themselves in writing with the goal of promoting creativity and finding personal empowerment.
